May 23, 2024, 1:00 pm-2:30 pm: Bias in Early Childhood Workforce

Arkansas Community Action Agencies Association Conference
Wyndham Hotel-North Little Rock, AR

When it comes to human behavior, there are many common types of bias we have that can influence the way we think and behave in the workplace. This workshop will focus on recognizing understanding, and addressing the different kinds of biases in order to improve the workforce environment. This session will highlight the steps an individual can take to prevent biased attitudes, behaviors from interfering  with workplace decisions and interactions.  Participants will have the opportunity to explore the relationship between the different biases.  This training seeks to raise awareness of the mental shortcuts that lead to snap judgements-- often based on race and gender--about people's talents or character.  The goal is to reduce bias in attitudes and behaviors in the workplace, from hiring and promotion decisions to interactions with customers and colleagues.   Come join us!!!

TBA, 11:30 am-1:00 pm: Microaggression in the Workplace: What is it?

Microaggressions are defined as the everyday, subtle, intentional-and oftentimes unintentional-interactions or behaviors that communicate some sort of bias toward historically marginalized groups. It is important that workers understand exactly what this word means and how it affects others in the workplace. this workshop will focus on scenarios, role plays, and discussions that well assist workers in knowing how to eliminate microaggression in the workplace.

TBA for 2024, 11:30 am-1:00 pm: How to Promote Racial Equity in the Workplace

Intractable as it seems, the problem of racism in the workplace can be effectively addressed with the right information, incentives, and investment. Organizations are relatively small, autonomous entities that afford leaders a high level of control over cultural norms and procedural rules, making them ideal places to develop policies and practices that promote racial equity. In this workshop, I will share and offer practical roadmap for making profound and sustainable progress towards that goal.
