When dealing with professional development topics involving race or others where the adults do not agree (social justice, emotionally charged current events, systemic racism), it is critical to establish equity of voice, set ground rules for continued discussions, in order to develop a program-wide culture of inclusivity that is free from harm for all. Consider doing a racial equity training needs assessment for staff based on what is happening in your program as you consider training content centered around racial equity. This way you will be able to meet the racial equity needs of all who are in your program. This section offers suggestions for topics centered around diversity, belonging, incusion, and racial equity.
