Movies are not inherently evil, they are visual texts. We know the big question for teachers is when and how can I use movies in early childhood education to teach children. Children should be taught to comprehend, analyze, and discuss a movie just like any other piece of fiction or non-fiction. Showing diverse movies in early childhood programs can be very powerful! The list of possibilities is countless.

In this section, not only do you find a diverse set of movies, but I am providing a few suggestions of ways teachers can use movies to improve teaching and learning. For example:

  1. Use different movies to scaffold understanding of complex texts for children.
  2. Use short movies to develop analytical thinking.
  3. Use movies to teach life skills in early childhood.
  4. Use movies as pre-reading activities to improve vocabulary, etc.
